Details
Good afternoon CGIL,
This week we are happy to have Dr. David Kelly, Research Projects Coordinator for the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF), presenting for us on Friday, November 29th, 2024. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The presentation title is: “Breeding for a Lower Cattle “Hoofprint””.
Speaker Biography: Dr. David Kelly is a Research Projects Coordinator for the Irish Cattle Breeding Federation (ICBF) at their Beef and Dairy Test Centre in Kildare, Ireland (1 hour southwest of Dublin). He completed a PhD in animal breeding and genetics with Teagasc Moorepark and Munster Technological University in 2021 where his research focused on beef production efficiency and total merit index validation. This was followed by post-doctoral roles with Teagasc where Dr. Kelly worked on dairy and beef genomics, and genetics of meat quality traits, before transitioning to the ICBF in early 2024.
Within his current role, Dr. Kelly primarily engages with other research organizations (nationally and internationally) seeking to leverage the ICBF cattle database through collaborative research, with a focus on complex, hard to measure traits in beef production.
