Good morning CGIL,   

We are happy to have Dr. Sophie Eaglen visiting us this week from the National Association of Animal Breeders presenting for us on Friday, September 12th, 2025. The seminar will begin at 1:30 PM EDT/EST on the virtual platform Microsoft Teams. The presentation title is: “The US bovine semen industry. Why does it lead now and will it lead in the future?” 

 

Speaker Biography: Dr Sophie Eaglen is a quantitative geneticist with a PhD in genetics and genomics from Edinburgh University, Scotland. Before Edinburgh, she earned her Master in Animal Science degree from Wageningen University, The Netherlands.  

Dr. Eaglen has a background in science, business global development and geopolitics with a continuous focus of explaining cattle genetic improvement to various audiences worldwide for the benefit of cattle producers and animal protein production. In her current role with NAAB Dr. Eaglen works with foreign officials, key industry stakeholders and dairy and beef producers to resolve trade barriers and promote the appropriate use of high quality bovine genetics exported from The United States. In addition, Dr Eaglen writes popular science articles in which she translates the complex world of cattle genetics to dairy and beef producers. 

After several years in The United States, Dr Eaglen currently lives in The Netherlands with her husband and twin toddlers.

Please join the meeting with your microphone on mute and the camera turned off. After the presentation, you can unmute the microphone, and optionally turn on the camera, if you wish to ask a question. Alternatively, if you wish to pose your question in the chat function, the presenter will answer questions made through the chat.
