In June of 2021, the late Dr. John Summers was inducted into the Canadian Poultry Research Network Hall of Fame. A giant in the poultry nutrition field, Summers was a professor in the Department of Poultry Science which later became Animal and Poultry Science (now Animal Biosciences). His pioneering research continue to have a tremendous impact on the industry today. The Poultry Science Association has announced Dr. Alexandra Harlander as this year's winner of the Poultry Welfare Research Award. The award "recognizes original research on poultry welfare in any discipline that has been published in the last five years (2017-2021)". A prolific and passionate researcher, Dr.

Associate Professor Dr. Jennifer Elllis has been named one of three recipients of the Early Career Researcher Award by the Livestock Research and Innovation Corporation (LRIC). With financial support from LRIC, Grand River Agricultural Society (GRAS), Western Fair Association (WFA), OAC and OVC, the $25,000 award recognizes researchers who take a creative and innovative approach to addressing important issues facing livestock industry.

Researchers in the Department of Animal Biosciences at the University of Guelph are undertaking a study which aims to understand consumer acceptance of pork chops from pigs that have different amounts of carcass fat.   

The Dairy Cattle Reproduction Council has named PhD candidate Guilherme Madureira as the 2022 DCRC Scholar. The award recognizes "an outstanding graduate student studying dairy, animal or veterinary science, microbiology or a related program, with an area of interest that includes dairy cattle reproduction and fertility".
