I developed a passion for animals from a young age starting with my love of horses. I began equestrian riding at the age of 5. My commitment to animal welfare and care developed into working with the horses at the barn, volunteering with the Burlington Humane Society while in high school and subsequently working at a kennel for cats and dogs.
My dedication to the care and protection of animals propelled me into the Animal Biology program in the Department of Science at the University of Guelph where I am currently a thesis-based MSc student in Dr. Niel Karrow’s lab. I graduated from the University of Guelph in the Spring of 2022 with a Bachelor of Science degree in Animal Biology. During my undergrad I took Animal Disorders and Comparative Immunology, both taught my Dr. Niel Karrow. This is where I developed a strong interest for immunology and the impact of stressors and nutrition.
Currently I am developing my lab skills and assisting Ph.D student, Nicole Moran, with her current research project looking at selenium deficiency in sheep. I am looking forward to beginning my research project in 2023. My research investigates the effects of heat stress on previously stress phenotyped dairy cattle. This study was carried out using an in vitro heat stress challenge using bovine peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs).
When I’m not in the lab or on campus you can find me at the barn riding my horse Double, at the range practicing my golf swing or hanging out with my cat, Griffin.
